Farlows Strip & Mend Print is a quirky and nostalgic limited-edition letterpress artwork.
They are hand-printed using a vintage proofing press and composed entirely of salvaged wood and metal printers type combined with antique advertising prints blocks - most well over 100 years old.
Farlows Strip & Mend Print is based on a Victorian 'Play Bill' style poster.
This print uses a medley of old blocks from numerous manufacturers, including a pre-1888 Hardy's dryfly block illustrating the 'jam knot'. This print block was salvaged from the basement of one of NZ's oldest tackle shops (I had long hoped to find a dry fly block and drove over 1000km after a tip-off). Follow the instructions, including remembering to mutter 'god save the queen' as you pause before you strike and you'll be assured success.
It is printed on 270gsm Recycled Card, Rubber Ink, signed and numbered edition of 60
Size: 232mm x 450mm
Russell Frost is the letterpress printer. A 'Boy of the Buller River', he grew up in the remote Nelson Lakes National Park (NZ) where his love for wild brown-trout blossomed. A student at Lake Rotoiti School, his school teacher's husband was the pioneering fishing guide; Tony Entwistle. After graduating from Lincoln University in 1996, Russell went onto become a member of the NZ Professional Fishing Guides himself, working for Lake Rotoroa Lodge and later for the Owen River Lodge.
