Howard Day
Howard got his start beating on Cockhaise Estate (then in its prime as a duck shoot) at the tender and impressionable age of four. The following summer he fell in love with fishing watching the coarse fishermen at Bushy Park, and by 10 had taught himself to fly fish using the lawn, trial and error, and Mr Crabtree’s common sense advice.
Twenty years and a fisheries degree later, personal passion became professional calling when Outside Days was established. Howard’s unparalleled knowledge of both sides of the beating line, fishing rod and high seat mean that he is able to work closely with estates to present their sport, understanding the client’s desires and the estates’ ability to deliver on them.
A qualified shooting instructor and flycasting coach, Howard is regularly called on to provide advice to, and appear on, TV and radio shows in Europe and the USA, as well as contributing quotes and articles to online and print publications in the UK. His privileged position travelling the globe and seeing a diversity of field sports and practices put him in demand as an expert.
Despite the poor quality of his jokes, Howard speaks on an array of field sports subjects to audiences as diverse as wildfowling clubs and government bodies.
Outside Days
Outside Days is a sporting agency born out of one man’s sporting passions and his drive to share the joy of a great day out with others. In true Farlow-esque style, Outside Days is a one stop shop for all your shooting and stalking aspirations from Argentina to Zimbabwe* and the entire sporting alphabet in between.
*Or Anglesey to Zeals Monocorum if you want to leave your passport at home.
We like to think that the bespoke focus Outside Days takes to finding the right sport for you is akin to Mr. Farlow’s prescient personal touch sales attention and this customer service-driven approach is just part of the natural synergy at the heart of collaboration between Outside Days and Farlows.
For 175 years, Farlows has provided a carefully curated selection of the best shooting gear to help you pursue your passion, whatever the quarry or destination. Similarly, Outside Days’ portfolio of sporting opportunities and accommodation is personally selected and rigorously reviewed to ensure that every day is a memorable one. It’s the equivalent of having an incredibly well-informed friend who’s ferretted out the best and takes pride in offering you access to their discoveries. After all, our clients are cherished friends and companions in the field.
You’ll see the fruits of our collaboration popping up in the form of sporting offerings, monthly blog posts, in-store and in-field events and other exciting and innovative opportunities.
For starters why not become involved with the Farlows’ Roving Syndicate?
Farlows’ Roving Shooting Syndicate
For the gun on the move, the roving syndicate is a great way to see the British countryside and the breadth of sporting challenges it offers. We enable you to pick and choose from a diversity of shoots/shooting opportunities as they fit into your diary. In the inclusive spirit of the sport, our syndicate is open to individual guns, but also small groups of friends who are looking for three or four spaces in a line.
So why not take the hassle out of your sporting agenda, make new friends and fill your boots and calendar – the first suggested dates are below:
25th September 2015 - 200 Bird Day Fordingbridge, Hampshire.
Designed and laid out in 1964 under the instruction of the Eley Game Advisory Service (forerunner to the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust), Manor Farm is the model shoot in more ways than one.
On the edge of the famous Chalke Valley, the stunning downland topography, purpose-planted woodlands and hedgerows, lunch in a converted medieval coach house and a delightful host combine to make this private Hampshire shoot a gem.
13th November and 7th December 2015 - 300 Bird Day Burford, Gloucestershire
Laid out around a quintessential Cotswold village, the family-run estate straddles the Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire border. The shoot shows partridge and pheasant over rolling countryside with birds for guns of all abilities. The family opens up one of their homes, welcoming arriving guns and serving lunch and afternoon tea, helping to retain a real family feel to the day.
