Top Ten Tackle Choices By Farlows' Fishing Manager Jason

When it comes to having their finger on the pulse of exactly what is happening in the worlds of angling, shooting, country sports and outdoor pursuits there really is nobody better than our in-store staff, all of whom have unrivalled expertise in their fields.

Sadly everyone cannot get to Pall Mall to speak with the team in person, and with this in mind we shall occasionally be asking the Farlows’ team members to make their own special recommendations of the clothing and kit you should be taking a close look at, based upon what’s hot, what’s being bought, what’s being talked about, what’s new and what is going to enhance your sporting or outdoor experience.

For this week we have teamed up with Fishing Manager, Jason Bowen to make his top ten picks from the angling department.

For Jason there was no hesitation when it came to selecting his first item, Hardy Duchess Reels. Jason said: “This is our customers’ favourite, it was the first new Hardy Bros reel in over a decade, it feels great, is brilliantly priced and, of course, It’s made in the UK too!”

Next came rods, and with many anglers currently heading off to bag a bonefish he recommended the Sage Xi3 Saltwater Fly Rod commenting: “The Sage saltwater rods are big sellers, and no wonder because they are best fly rod range for any saltwater situation, and this is currently at a great sale price.”

With the salmon season well underway in the UK Jason’s next rod choice was the new Guideline LXi range of double handed rods.

He also highly recommends the ultra-fast Sage Method range.

Line choice is, of course, critical and for trout anglers Jason was quick to recommend the new RIO In Touch series “These lines do exactly what they say on the tin.” He said, “They are incredibly sensitive and allow you to feel the take and set your hook at lightning-fast speeds.”

Jason’s other key line choice was the Rio Scandi VersiTip Kit, designed specifically for switch and short Spey rods.

Lots of anglers are looking to replace their waders and boots at this time of year and the ‘manager’s choice’ wader was the Simms Headwater Stockingfoot, a new, entry-level GORE-TEX® wader.

And for boots Jason was quick to pick out the OmniTrax® Interchangeable Sole System on the new Korkers Devil’s Canyon boots. “These are great, lightweight, really comfortable and great versatility whatever terrain you are wading over.” He said.

He also recommended that you couple your new waders with one of the new Simms Wading Staffs.

Jason’s final pick was the new Simms Dry Creek Hip Pack “It’s compact, lightweight, waterproof and packed with storage solutions, our customers are raving about it!”
